DVI-D-0 the X atom and colord returned the same profile
      X atom: _ICC_PROFILE (0 bytes)
          description: (none)
      colord: "(none)"
          description: (file not found)

Better check your system setup
   - some monitors lacked a profile
You may experience inconsistent color rendition between color managed
applications

Geeqie determines correct profile without problems. GIMP seems not to
have problems too.
1. is your monitor connected to the DVI port?

Yes, DVI
2. Do you have more than one monitor or GPU?

I have onboard AMD GPU and AMD Radeon 580. Monitor is connected to the latter one.
3. Do you use X11 or Wayland?
I guess my OS uses X11 version 1.18.4.

4. Does DisplayCal load the profile at every system start?

Yes, it does.
5. When you say that darktable doesn't remember the manually specified
profile, do you mean that you pick the profile in the dropdown list and when
closing darktable and starting it again the dropdown is back to system
profile?

Yes, I meant exactly that.

With respect,
