Hello Everyone,
Pardon me for jumping in as a simple DT-user out there... I would like to
ask for an improvment to the "import" feature of DT [the one that is
currently disabled by default in git]... As I use DT for end to end
management of my images, I'm not willing to use an external software to
import images out of the camera, and then reimport folders in DT. I don't
want either to use USB card reader as moving the CF out and back in my
camera too often really present the risk of bending a pin in the camera (I
know, CF are not trendy anymore but that's what I have on my Canon 7D).
What I would like to do is to be able to organize auto-magically my folder
structure so that it reflects the date when each pictures was taken. This
is what I was doing so far when I was still a windows user running
LightRoom.
The structure should look like:
<YEAR>/<MONTH>/<DAY>/picture_name.cr2
I tried to do this in darktable expressing the import path with the
variables $(EXIF_YEAR)/$(EXIF_MONTH)/... much like I do for export. But it
looks like Darktable is valuing the data *once* using the current system
time, and does import all images in the same place. If darktable could
evaluate the import path image by image, using the EXIF, that would really
help make the import feature shooter friendly :-)
I hope this request make sense, and I take the opportunity of that mail to
*thank* the whole dev team for that excellent tool, getting even better
commit after commit. I have now fully migrated from windows/LR to
Linux/darktable and wouldn't consider going back... Thanks to darktable.
Cheers,
-Francois Connetable
