I don't think there's a way to show the entirety of both images, though I think 
it's been discussed in the development
IRC in the past, so it's at least on the radar.  See, for example:

You can use the snapshot plugin, though it's not quite the same thing.  It's in 
the top of the left plugin panel.  You
can use it in conjunction with the history stack to take a snapshot at any 
stage in the development process, then you
can click on the snapshot you've taken and a vertical line appears which can be 
dragged left or right.  See:
