Hi the new focus detection is a really interesting feature. From my point of view, judging sharpness quickly in lighttable, is (or now was? ;-) ) a weak point in darktable.
I tried this feature with some images. Especially for some (noisier) concert pictures, I noticed that often areas are detected to be in focus, which obviously aren't. Here is an example: http://www.meterprosekun.de/dtfocusscreens/focus1.jpg I wonder, if the noise has been detected here? (the full res imsge can be found here: http://www.meterprosekun.de/dtfocusscreens/DSC_6666.jpg) Apart from the above, I would like to suggest a little change. I had a quick look into the code. If I am not mistaken, the intensity of the red (or blue) frames around clusters scales with the degree of sharpness. In order to emphasize the sharpest clusters I changed the red/blue intensity to the square of the "sharpness intensity" in function dt_focus_draw_clusters. Then it looks like this for the aforementioned image: http://www.meterprosekun.de/dtfocusscreens/focus2sqr.jpg Thanks Sören ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ November Webinars for C, C++, Fortran Developers Accelerate application performance with scalable programming models.
