Hello everyone, as you might have seen being mentioned in a few mails from the last days on our mailing lists there is a new Libre Graphics Meeting in the planning.
The Libre Graphics Meeting (LGM for short) is an annual meeting of developers, users and fans of free and open source graphics applications. Popular communities participating are GIMP, Inkscape, Scribus, Blender and many more. Since a few years also darktable had at least one participant (me), and it was at LGM in Brussels that a presentation of darktable, given by Alexandre Prokoudine, brought me to darktable in the first place. So without LGM I might have never started to help out with this project. The next LGM -- the 9th incarnation -- will be held 2-5 April 2014 in Leipzig, Germany. Traditionally the organizers cover the travel costs of participants that are entitled (all contributors to the libre graphics world, i.e., developers, translators, ...) and ask for it. In order to do so they are asking for donations since there is no corporation or big organization standing behind all this but it's the community organizing their own yearly family meeting. So it would be nice if those of you that can spare some bucks gave it to this Pledgie: https://pledgie.com/campaigns/22927 If you are running a business using free software I am sure that sponsoring deals can be arranged, too. ;) This will not only benefit darktable developers directly but also those of fellow projects. This is however a good thing for all of us, since discussions and meetings with these people help us, too. The reason that darktable has colord support for getting the display color profile is because Richard Hughes and me sat down at LGM 2012 in Vienna and came up with a library to make this work. In the end the free software community has to work together if we want to achieve something. There are also plans to have a first official developer meeting at LGM next year, so it would be awesome if more than the few that live nearby could afford to come. That being said, I don't want to end this post with just begging for your hard earned cash but also invite you to come to Leipzig. It would be cool to meet some of you there, maybe you even want to do a darktable workshop? Feel free to register at the website if you plan - to come: http://libregraphicsmeeting.org/2014/register/ - or do a talk or workshop: http://libregraphicsmeeting.org/2014/submit/ Thanks for your attention, spread the word and have a nice day Tobias
