Sorry, I'm new to Darktable and I cannot find this checkbox. The only thing I could find is the "global preferences" button (gear icon on top left of canvas), but neither "GUI options" nor "core options" have such a setting.
By the way, below a link to two more screenshots: I just realised that at 100% image zoom in darktable, a checkerboard pattern appears for the 1.4.2 release.
