I have tested the new master branch ported to GTk+3 on Ubuntu GNOME
14.10 with GNOME updated to 3.14 version, following this procedure:
http://www.webupd8.org/2014/10/how-to-install-gnome-314-in-ubuntu.html

And darktable builds Ok, and looks nice... except map mode, it is
unavailable.

There is no libosmgpsmap-1.0-dev available in the repos anymore for
this distro with GNOME 3.14.

The packages for libosmgpsmap found in the repos are libosmgpsmap-dev
and libosmgpsmap2, both in version 0.7.3-3ubuntu1.14.10.1

I have both installed, but darktable's build script looks for
libosmgpsmap1. I get this error:

- -- checking for module 'osmgpsmap-1.0'
- -- package 'osmgpsmap-1.0' not found
- -- Map mode: disabled, please install libosmgpsmap
CMake Warning at src/CMakeLists.txt:599 (message):
  REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT

No problems with libcolord-gtk, I have installed the package, the
build script detects it, and it works.
