Are they not applied or just not selected in teh history stack? I.e., when you open the image in darkroom, do the style items show up in the history stack but the selected item is below them? I don't have a working installation of dt around to try myself. I didn't look into styles when I did a237fa1ff370c77dfbac1f809a5df32148ea5bbc and mentioned that in the commit log.
