I just tried this approach, and whilst an rpmbuild of dt uses the  
/usr/local version of the lib to build, installing the package goes awry  
because the package manager only knows about dependencies within its own  
database...so I'm snookered, unless I build and install dt without using  
rpmbuild or the package manager.
Not really where I would like to be heading.
