Patrick; your attachments solved the situation of our differences ... yes
we are looking at some system differences.

I do not have the "apply metadata on import" as an available option when I
import from my camera and as an aside I am also seeing now that I am unable
to import from an external file source (from the camera all works
correctly). something appears to be to be odd within my system. (see
attached import clip).

I am using the nightly opensuse build and have been doing this for a very
long time. I am not sure that ripping dt out totally and reinstalling will
be a solution. I think that this problem has only surfaced since the last
major update. Anyway I do at least know now that this is not all totally in
my head. That's really good to know (I think)!
