Ah ah! That's not really a file manager as there is no notion of
directory. You just move around *selected* pictures to some other
collections (places). The target collection can already exists or is a
new one created from the dialog.
This is handy with small numbers of pictures, e. g. from an import, if you want to integrate them into your collection structure.

If you want to move a complete archive with thousands of images in folders and subfolders this is a sisyphos approach. You'd better move the complete archive from your old hard drive to the new - hopefully bigger - one with a file manager.

If you start darktable afterwards and go to the "collect images" module in lighttable and select "folders" instead of "film roll" you find the old folder of the archive crossed out. Right click brings up a menu to point darktable to the new location of the archive - it will then update the database.
