Make sure to rename those, too.

If you rename the files then removing the images from dt and importing again 
after you renamed them is your only easy option.

If you are familiar with SQL you can make a backup of your ~/.config/darktable/
library.db and then prepend "sr-" to the "filename" column for all entries in 
the "images" table. That should make darktable see the renamed files.
Something like this should do (caution: untested, make backup first):
UPDATE images SET filename = "sr-" || filename;

If you are fine with not renaming every file but making a new top level folder 
"sr" and one for the other person and moving the whole hierarchy under that 
folder, then a right click in the folder mode of the collect module will allow 
you to tell darktable about the new location.

If you are using 2.2.0 or newer then your presets are in a separate database 
(data.db) so you won't lose them.
