I just found out that it is camera specific and not date specific. The creator is always set for my Canon 6D. But not so for Canon 20D, Fuji X100 and Canon G9X II. The Fuji and the G9X get a blank creator, while the Canon 20D gets "unknown" creator. And this is true for several years now. But since I mostly take pictures with my 6D I never realized it.
