If I recall correctly, there is a third way, I seem to recall seeing a pluin for
GIMP that lets it read (some) RAW images.  I think it is a UFRaw plugin.

HOWEVER, if you are exporting for GIMP you are better to export as a TIFF than
as a JPG.  Preserve as much information as you can :-)
