I'm not sure what the problem is, perhaps a miscommunication?
I'm happy with how it works. If there is still some data in the database, I'm fine with that :)

anything.

It does not delete style information (what tools are used with what
parameters) from the database.

I assume “works for me” means that you do not see the style in DT's
menu anymore.  Yep, you don't see it.  But you have not deleted the
information that constitutes the style.
then start with a pristine database and import a style, make a copy of the
database containing the style, remove the style using sqlite.  then remove
the style using dt from the copied db.  compare the two resulting
databases and see what is different, if anything.  make a proof of your
contention so there is no longer a contention.
