@Remco, I did try Local Contrast and the highpass filter, but that didn't help and made details even more uglier.

By the way, I mostly don't scale my images. I deliver them at the original (raw) size.

Equalizer is too complex for me I'm afraid.

It's been a while since I asked a question about how to get the best
sharpness and detail in DT, in this case using RAF files from my Fuji
XT1 and 2. Sometimes the sharpness is good enough for me, but I just
tested Capture One for Fuji cameras (free for Fuji users), and compared
a few images between the two and I just can't get the sharpness and
detail in DT that I see in Capture One.

See this example: https://jackdaw.stackstorage.com/s/v6OELpnw9hp7HwF

The top one is DT and I've tried hard to get that edge sharpness (leaves
and branches) but failed. Any suggestions?

In DT I added a second instance of sharpness, but details seem to get a
bit muddy and I played a long time with the sliders.
You don't say what you've tried, so I'll just drop some suggestions:
- add local contrast;
- try the high-pas filter, with uniform blending in "softlight" mode;
- use the equalizer module: rather complex to use, but powerful (try clarity
and sharpness presets).

It looks to me that at least part of the extra apparent sharpness from Capture
One comes from local contrast/clarity/however they call it (look at the
lighter branch just below the right of the rock).

A weak point with Darktable is that all treatment is done for full size
images; if you export to a smaller size you lose some apparent sharpness, and
it's currently not possible to apply a treatment after downsizing from within
darktable (afaik).
