You don't say what you've tried, so I'll just drop some suggestions:
- add local contrast;
- try the high-pas filter, with uniform blending in "softlight" mode;
- use the equalizer module: rather complex to use, but powerful (try clarity 
and sharpness presets).

It looks to me that at least part of the extra apparent sharpness from Capture 
One comes from local contrast/clarity/however they call it (look at the 
lighter branch just below the right of the rock). 

A weak point with Darktable is that all treatment is done for full size 
images; if you export to a smaller size you lose some apparent sharpness, and 
it's currently not possible to apply a treatment after downsizing from within 
darktable (afaik).
