I have a HD 720 monitor and the fonts are too big too.

Editing /darktablerc/ file works for me, just changed
/screen_dpi_overwrite=-1.0/ to /screen_dpi_overwrite=65/ (found by try
and error). I grab the v3.1 deb package from OBS, maybe they fix
something there?

I don't find it straightforward at all.

Tried that too, the problem is that you get a uneven GUI, some widgets
change font size and others don't, I will try your file and see whats happen
