The reason is that certain window systems try to be like MS-Windows. Sad
but true.

The correct term is "directory", even Microsoft knows that, the command
line on all MS-Systems requires "mkdir" or "cd" (for change directory),
and you list the contents of a directory with "dir" (and not with
"folder" (*)). This applies since MS-DOS had a hierarchical file system
until today.

(*) of course listing it by using its name is confusing, it's MS,
eventually (**). The intuitive command for "list" is "ls", of course.
But nobody expects and MS product to be intuitive, some people just get
used to it.

(**) But ok, also VMS (on a VAX) did that...
