In darktable, you can use the different basecurve presets for that (only for the "standard" rendering, afaik). There are some options in the settings dialog for that. But keep in mind that, although using the basecurve rendering gives a quick and reasonable result, it has disadvantages. I lose about 1 stop in the highlights using the standard basecurve for my Sony camera. Also, it can be much harder to get a decent result if the image needs extensive adjustments.
