[darktable-user] dt 3.2.1 freezes on every import, probably user error; how to correct?

For the past few weeks I have noticed that dt .3.2.1 freezes towards the 
end of the import process, whether importing a file or a folder, from my 
hard disk or from external media. Upon clicking the 'close app' icon I 
get the message 'darktable failed to respond' (or words to that effect) 
and I have to take the 'force quit' option to kill dt and restart it. 
Upon restart I find that the import has completed as a wished and there 
is no further problem using dt - until the next import. I suspect this 
is a user error of some sort, but how can I stop it recurring ? Deleting 
the data.db file in ~/.config/darktable does not fix the problem.
