Thank for your reaction.
unless requested otherwise, one would be expected to keep a conversation
on the mail list.
I believe I'm now doing this now.
I'm using windows home 64 bit with laptop HP Pavillion 17, with 16 GB extra
memory and a new 250 GB SS,  and a desktop computer that has not been
changed.
"has not been changed" makes no sense to me.
It means that on my desktop I have another darktable 3.6.0 installed which containes other directories and files.
I did not update that one.

My problem with the 3.6.1 installation is that the new features (par exemple
quick acces) are not available. Also the export tab should now be at the
left side in darktable.
on my development/master version the export tab is *still* on the right
panel.

Some foto's files are changed.
I am not in front of your computer and cannot see nor understand "some
foto's files are changed". would you understand that if I had said it?
In a quick overview some files seem to have much more noise in them, as if the contrast is much too high.
So my conclusion is that the new installed darktable is not complete or in
some way faulty. May be install again over the present install?
your install quite well may be faulty.

I would remove *all* traces of a "faulty" install before reinstalling
OK!

I consider to delete the whole installation. Install darktable 3.6.0 or
3.6.1 again.
3.6.0 is not current and 3.6.1 is current stable.
I will install the 3.6.1 darktable

If I understand you correctly I could use 3.6.1. without any troubles . Or
to be safe use 3.6.0?
answered.

I have a darktable database backup from before I changed darktable. I can
overwrite the new database in the users directory with this backup?
you can, but your results depend on what else you have done.
After a new clean install, should I overwrite the new database with the current database folder???
It would contain all my old and recent edits??

Would there be a problem with the xmp-files? I always write the edits to the
xmp-file
if you write changes to the xmp files, destroying *all* of your darktable
installations and reimporting after a new, successful install should suffice.

Some files are edited under the faulty(?) installation.
I could delete those xmp-files and edit the files again?
you could, but ...
If I use the last database folder, I believe it contains all my old and new edits??

My last resort is to use a backup of my system partition, and also look for
a backup of the changed files to restore?
But I would lose the changes I have made in other folders and programs.
so you have a choice.
But I prefer not to use system backups because it will make a lot of changes
Another question about my database files. Under my users folders in the
darktable folder there are 30-40 entry's of files as -
data.db-snp-20210926141253 and library.db-snp-20210926141253.
Can I delete them?
you can, but they are backup of your database(s) designated by your
configuration. you really should read about darktable and your
installation.
I will leave them alone.

Met vriendelijke groet,
Jan Minekus

Hello,

I'm not sure if I'm using the correct email addres about my trouble
installing darktable 3.6.1 over the old installation 3.6.0
I have lost the different email addresses of the list.

I have the new darktable installed in a seperate directory, so I could
continue work with the old one.
I did not realise 3.6.1 is not a stable one.
Problem is that after deleting the old darktable the new 3.6.1 is not
correct.
So I ran the installation of the new one again.
I had to update the database.
I did not realise 3.6.1 is not a stable one.
But some things are missing - the new quick acces in darktable. Also the
images appear to be altered.
Also the export module is still in the right panel.
How can I resolve this?
I'm thinking to remove the complete installation of darktable and install
the latest version again.
That should be 3.6.0 as the latest stable one
Is that possible, to remove the installation and install the 3.6.0 version
again.
I don't want to lose my edits.
if you have saved the sidecar, xml, files with your images, they contain
your edits and flags. A new import to a fresh database will contain those
edits.

afaik, 3.6.1 is stable. I don't know why one would think otherwise.

you have not explained what is incorrect with 3.6.1, nor your operating
system, ...

one would only be guessing to try and help you.

you are your own sysadmin and determine what you do. make informed
choices, there is *much* documentation.
