Hi Remco,

Tnx. Yes I always check the dates of tutorials. This one was 2 years old so I
already expected some UI items to be different. I mainly followed this one
because he explains how to apply a mask including the use of the mouse. Where
to click etc. with free forms... I didn't manage to get that right before.

Thanks for the tips, I do work with scene referred RGB indeed. "Keep in mind
that in your case, masking and reducing exposition can lead to strange tone
transitions at the edges. That's why I suggested tone equaliser or filmic
adjustments instead of masking." Towing (?) the exposure down gave weird
results indeed. The tone equalizer was - almost - exactly what I needed. You
saved this image! Merci mille fois! Je t'embrasse tès fort et je te donne un
grand bisoux __

There are other images too though wich need a mask, but for several different
reasons. So I'm still looking for learning to work with masks. I have until the
end of this week - up until and including Thursday actually - for making these
changes and entering my pix for a contest.

And yes, I see the yellow part. What about it? __

If you are using the scene-referred workflow, you could use the tone
equaliser
for this (or perhaps adjust filmic).

As for the mask, did you visualise it ("circle in square" icon next to
"mask
refinement) and did it show the area you wanted to mask (yellow) ?

I haven't seen a "mask" option in blendmode ever (that is, the last few
years). I found that I always have to check the date on any kind of
tutorial,
as changes are rather fast (not only for darktable) .

First we have to know what went wrong...
Keep in mind that in your case, masking and reducing exposition can lead to

strange tone transitions at the edges. That's why I suggested tone
equaliser
or filmic adjustments instead of masking.
