Hej,

I have just started using darktable to manage my digital photos. So
far I can say that I really like the concepts of this application.
When starting to use new software I always think about how to backup
my data just in case everything goes wrong or in case I have to move
to another computer.

Regarding this topic I have hit paydirt in the mailing list:
  * http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=29291108

I can confirm that it is as easy as that - just to keep the xmp files
(sidecars) and re-import the folder in case one wants to continue
editing a folder of images on another computer with keeping the
editing history intact. In this regard: what data does the
sqlite-database contain? Actually everything I need is in the
xmp-files. :-)

Now my question: Could you please mention this easy backup/re-import
procedure in your documentation? If you want I can write a short
summary of the procedure so that it can be included (github
pull-request?) in the user manual.

Thank you for your efforts, darktable rocks. It's great fun to manage
fotos with this application!!

Many regards,
  Rainer
