I'd like to start by thanking all the developers for a wonderful piece of
software. Lightroom was one the only software that kept me stuck on OS X
for a long time and then, when I finally just decided to switch back to
Linux, the lack of any good open source raw editor just meant I stopped
really doing any photo editing. Now I'm really excited about darktable and
want to start playing around with it and setting up a workflow. Anyway,
sorry for the long intro but its very impressive how quickly DT has evolved
(I've been looking into LR alternatives for a while now so I've tracked its
progress).
Anyway, my question is only partially about DT. I am trying to decide
between two monitors: the dell U2711 and the U2713HM. The main advantage
of the former is wide gamut and 10-bit internal color processing.
Unfortunately it apparently suffers from painfully grainy anti-glare
coating. So I'm prone to get the U2713HM but this only support sRGB and
8-bit color processing. So my question is whether Linux and Darktable in
particular even have 10-bit color support. If not then its clear I should
go for the U2713HM, otherwise I have a decision to make. In any case i
think the 10-bit question should probably be of more general interest to
Linux-based photographers. Color support depends on the whole pipeline,
not just the raw editor hence my rather broad exposition. I have an NVidia
560 ti graphics card and I believe the driver now has 10-bit support but I
am not sure. Could anyone who knows anything about this comment?
Thank you.
