Probably.

More importantly there is X11/nvidia-blob/compiz/etc to think of
(before we can even start considering Darktable).

Anyhow. 8bit is enough for most practical purposes (really).

Mostly when people experience banding issues and such it's because the
displays aren't truely 8bit to begin with :)
