I wonder if it wouldn't be sensible to have options with a broader scope
in their own place instead of gluing them together with a collection of
probably specific photos. I agree that this doesn't make a difference if
one hosts all photos in one large db but it differs already if you want
to use dt's shell parameters for separate sets (ie. different dbs) that
might want to share common styles/prefixes.
From this considerations I wonder, if there is really a huge advantage
to store styles, presets etc. within the db instead of reading them from
(a bunch of) directory once upon startup from individual config files.
In the latter case your file manager might ask you "do you want to
overwrite?" or it assumes that you know what you're doing on the shell.
IMHO having styles and presets in one file each in their respecitve
dir(s) would easily solve the OPs problem without further complications.
I admit that having styles and presets OUTSIDE of the libray.db would
help me in my own workflow quite a bit. At the moment I use dt as raw
developer not as my primary workflow tool, thus I'm actually not able to
use presets and styles that easily, as my "library.db" is just a temp
file that get's deleted again and again.
