Still, you'd loose your presets, styles, vocabulary (aka tags) and 
whatnot gets stored to the db.

You might specify the librarys path on the command line.

cf. darktable --help

to the options available.

But it seems advisable to backup .* anyway along with everything in you 
$HOME (this is Unix ;)
