I did as you suggested, and now I cannot see anything associated with
the watermark on the photo.  Something strange (or maybe not) is that
when I open the svg file in Gimp, I only have a transparent rectangle. 
Yet, if I open the svg with Inkscape, the text is there.  I also
exported the text from Inkscape as a png file, and that is visible in
Gimp with a transparent background.  It is available as a watermark in
DT, but it also produces nothing on my photo if I choose it.
