But this does not assign them but only offers to search for them (ie.
adds a rule). If I get the op correctly, assignment of keywords is the
point here. And he'd get a +1 from me for this point ;) I admit I would
really appreciate if the metadata related modules could get some
improvement. (Ok, they don't sound cool but they are vitally important
for a /collection/.)

A GUI like keywords module with the possibility to restrict what's shown
by starting to type is pretty nice e.g. I can imagine that very well on
the side of the tags module. The current tagging has a real problem if
you want to handle a bunch of keywords and/or sort them. I do not "tag"
anything, as IMHO tagging is a waste of time. I always assign
/controled/ keywords from lists. And dt is currently not good at that at
all. Unfortunately. And it is no fun at all to keep a vocabulary in
darktable at all. The current tagging module just doesn't work well for
that.

Besides, there are quite some relevant keyword fields just missing. If
one doesn't go for full IPTC (which would be wise) at least the location
tags should be available. It /is/ very helpful to restrict a large
collection by say a city and/or sublocation or country/city/sublocation.
I can do this via keyword chains, but it is not really suitable. This is
currently not done well either.

I feel for a larger collection the currently used dublin core is just
(way) to small. ;)
