Just my 2ct about that checkbox question: There is already an option to
apply styles for export. I think EXIF editing could be a module, and a
cleaned EXIF could be part of a style.

One could as well invoke an external metadata editor, e.g. calling a command
line tool on all exported images. It's just so easy to forget additional
steps like this. :(
again, lua could fire it for you, making sure you don't forget it. (once
I've added the feature :P )
Thanks for the hint regarding lua. Didn't work with that until now. But
would everybody with this use case have to set up a lua script? I thought
that might be a problem some other users fase as well and a checkbox in the
export module would be of great use.
there is a web page to share lua scripts, i'm the only one who has
contributed scripts so far but I hope other people will write some
scripts...
dowloading a script and enabling it is a higher barrier than integrating it
in core, but I consider it low enough that people should be able to do it...
moreover there is a mechanism allowing us to distribute some lua scripts in
the source tarball/install them with DT if we ever want to. The debug tool
script is distributed that way.
The problem with a checkbox is that it adds stuff to the core for one
particular workflow and there are as many workflows as there are users.
there are a couple of thinks that can be done to simplify the export a bit
(like "command to run on each image" configuration option implemented via
lua) but it all needs to be done by someone :P
I'll look into the export callback ASAP, it shouldn't be too hard since I
have the code somewhere...

I was going to write that lua could help you here, but you made me realize
this is a functionality I forgot to merge back in trunk so...
lua will be able to help you soon, there will be a possibility to register a
lua callback that will be called whenever an image is exported but before it
is put to its final location (emailed, sent to facebook, moved to its final
place on disk etc...) i'll try to add that particular feature ASAP
