That is no matter of white balance, I think. The "base curve" setting
tries to emulate the JPEG defaults for your camera, but I think the reds
are often too strong. 

Deactivating the base curve in the base group helps with this -- at the
same time, it removes all contrast enhancement, so you have to add some
contrast by yourself. Sometimes that also makes it possible to recover
highlights that are just white with the base curve applied.
