Hi Victor,
If you are generally having problems matching the noise reduction in jpegs I
recommend activating the 'Profiled de-noise' module as standard. This is really
good as it adapts its strength to the type of camera and ISO setting used so
that it is usually somewhere near ideal strength for almost all images.
It should be possible to easily control accutance of raws within darktable so
as to render them either more or less sharp than that coming from default
jpegs. There are multiple tools within dt to achieve this but a simple and
easy one that I like is to just use the 'highpass' module with 'overlay' as
its blend mode. This (or the equalizer) can sharpen a lot more than the default
sharpen module.
Rgds,
Rob.

Subject: Re: [Darktable-users] Darktable vs Lightroom ep03 on my blog
I
didn't mean to be rude; the french mail was for the blog; here's a short
translation :
Here is my version of the image with a short explanation for each module used.
The goal was to achieve a similar image to Yann (on the french blog).
Developpement took ~15 min under Darktable 1.4. I kept all automatic modules to
default values
Screenshots and result<http://vicopsp.free.fr/images_fleurs/>
exposition : I lowered the exposition on the flower using a coarse mask.
graduated density : The flower on the bottom left was to much visible. I
lowered the exposition of the bottom left image using this module
base curve : no change
shadows & highlights: I lowered shadows to extract the flower from the
background. I tweaked a little the highlights to recover them
equalizer : Using the same mask as in the exposition module I brang small
details back
local contrast: Same as the equalizer
color zones : Desaturated green to fade the background. I also modified the
yellow to a more orange tone
color correction : I made the image more yellow; thus warmer.
sharpen : Activated by default on RAW files; I kept it but it has the same
effect as the equalizer (the eq is only on the flower and it is more aggressive)
vignetting : A little big of vignetting to draw the attention on the flower.
I never tried Lightroom but darktable is fine. My only regret is the following
one: I can't reach JPEG image quality when developing raw files with darktable.
I still have more noise/distortion and a lack of acutance.
Bye
