Depending on your darktable configuration you see an embedded thumb - which is contained in the RAW - when you view the image in lighttable. When opening the image in the darkroom the full RAW data are used. If you modify the image and go back to lighttable a new thumbnail is generated by darktable. So most likely the file corruption has affected the embedded thumbs. Maybe only the ones with lowest resolution are left. You may activate the config option "don't use embedded preview JPEG's..." in gui options. In that case darktable will ignore any embedded thumbs and always will generate a thumbnail based on default settings.
