Thanks. Just tested on your picture. On my machine (Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit), eog shows aliasing artifacts even when "Smooth images when zoomed-in" is enabled (which is default). So, eog's smoothing is either inefficient or limited in zoom-out factor. I've been using geeqie as image viewer for years. It's nice, quick, configurable, with many handy features (including several anti-aliasing quality settings for trade-off between speed and accuracy) and key shortcuts.
