It's not corruption --- it's as it works (and it is clearly stated 
somewhere, I am sure --- I remember reading it). The database 
compatibility is only on the way up, going from a version to version+1. 
The upgrade changes the database in such ways that could not be 
understood by the older program.

It would be a nice thing to backup the database when testing a new 
release...

Normally the .xmp files save the day; I say normally because sometime 
even that are changed in incompatible ways. Shouldn't happen, but I 
imagine that sometime there is no other option (or reasonable option).
