Hi to Everyone,
I am a newbee in digital image processing, as I discovered Darktable
only a few days ago. I own a Canon EOS 600D which I bought last
december ; before that I had an old Canon Powershot G2, which RAW images
I treated with 'dcraw'.
To get the best of the CR2 raw images that I get from my EOS 600 D, I
soon realized that I needed an icc profile. I therefore attempted to
create one, following Pascal Debruijn method.
I then shot a newly bought 'CMP Digital Target 4' according to said
method, using the integrated flash set to 'manual -- ΒΌ power', 100 ISO -
1/100s, auto WB, f22 downto 1.8 in small steps, and imported the CR2s
into Darktable 1.1.3 in my 64-bit Ubuntu 13.04 system, the parameters
being set in accordance to Pascal's online document. I picked an image
which brightest white spot was as close as possible to the requirements
(L 88) and, by increasing the exposure by +0.37, I brought it to L 96.6,
which is within the gap 245 to 250 in rgb level as prescribed by CMP.
Then the image was exported to a 16-bit tiff file, which I attempted to
process through Argyll software, expecting to get what was needed to
obtain an icc profile.
But the Argyll processing failed !
True enough, in the command line, I issued a statement calling for
'CMP_Digital_Target-3.cht', while the target I shot was a Digital Target
4. But the '/usr/share/color/argyll/ref' directory that I have, does not
have any file mentioning 'Digital Target 4'. However, the Argyll
software that I just installed is that which is available through the
Ubuntu 13.04 repository... Maybe I should build a newer one from a
tarball, or just add another file to the version I get... In any case,
you can see what I got below :
# scanin -v -p -a -dipn img_0001.tiff
/usr/share/color/argyll/ref/CMP_Digital_Target-3.cht CMP_DT3.txt
TIFFReadDirectory: Warning, Unknown field with tag 18246 (0x4746)
encountered.
TIFFReadDirectory: Warning, Unknown field with tag 18249 (0x4749)
encountered.
(as far as these two warnings are concerned, I get them in many other
instances ; I think that there is a bug somewhere in the exif data
concerning the flash). Let us then see what comes next :
Input file 'img_0001.tiff': w=3436, h=2384, d = 3, bpp = 16

GIMP. As for the above mentioned 'img_0001.ti3', it is nowhere to be found.
Thanks in advance for your help
