I got in touch with the 500px people. Their response was:
Hi Francisco,
We do plan to upgrade, but not soon. We have many other things more urgent
on our to-do list first. Sorry about that!
If the developers post their request on our GitHub, then our platform team
will take note of it and it will help the prioritize their work:
