I've also used both DispcalGUI and Gnome Color Manager.

What I prefer about DispcalGUI is that it will take an ambient light
measurement (if your colorimeter supports it) then helps you set the
correct brightness on your monitor. It also measures the Red, Green and
Blue of your monitor, and then helps you set them to the correct levels.
Unfortunately, the calibration takes much longer.

I agree that Gnome Color Manager is great for a quick, useable color
profile for people who don't need total accuracy.
