Well the scanner has some kind of sensor inside it, so it's at least
in theory possible to have actual bayer raw from it. I think Leaf
sells some scanners that produce actual raw files for example. The IR
channel indeed explains the fourth channel.

Actually if there's an option to produce just a 3 channel DNG (without
the IR alpha channel) it will probably work but will be the exact same
data as TIFF so it's probably not worth it.
