Implicitly comparing the outfit of your wife to another woman's one is almost always a bad idea. I hope comparing computer systems or technical approaches does not have the same amount of psychological pitfalls. ;-) Coming back to RGB curves: I think until someone presents a specific example the benefits will be very vague at best.
