I'm using the same workflow, relying on raw+xmp, and only generate
jpegs when needed.  Saving for longer could be a solution, but it
would mean to have just another file around to take care of.  I could
just as well save the sidecar file to a separate folder, or zip it.

Is the fact that DT stores the processing stack in the jpeg a
documented feature?  Or might it go away some day?
