There are sponsors, who are openly declared, but the people taking part in the discussions seem to me to be photographers rather than salesmen. It has a UK bias in that many of the members are from here but many topics are of international relevance. There is also: http://digital-photography-school.com/ which is more tutorial - focused but also has a forum.
