fwiw i knew both gtk and qt when i started darktable. maybe i had programmed a little bit more with qt before that (maybe that was the reason why..). gtk seemed a little cleaner and less bloated by then. now if you count glib in, too, i'm not so sure about that any more. one big plus for gtk (imo) is that it has a c api (darktable is written in c) and doesn't need c++. both can be a pain to update (see gtk3).
