We use ADO and it works fine (except for ADO/SQL server bugs we have to work
around).
Have you the latest service pack for SQL7 - Sp2 was the last one we
installed.
ODBC works fine also.
Sounds like your DB may already be corrupt ... Welcome to MSSQL7
