(search for itrans) And I learned the hilarious way what linguists mean by the term "phonetically accurate / inaccurate script". The most amusing results were the round-trip ones : Words that are originally English, have been written in Marathi script, and then we transliterate them back to English. In your case if you're doing people's names then that won't be too much of an issue. An example output: phargyusan (which is supposed to be: Fergusson) So I ran the results of the iTrans converver through this javascript page/program I built : a "Ctrl+H on steroids". I used it to do sequential replacements on the frequently occurring word-parts (roots? clauses?) and reign in the hilarious output. *https://answerquest.github.io/words-replacer.html* Of course this was 3 yrs ago and long before I heard about things like natural language processing or the possibility of using transliteration tools programmatically. I saw many possible leads come up in search results on searching for "transliteration API hindi english".
