Jerome, I don't believe you understand. Size of data is not a problem. Data
relations between panels is what we are talking about. I work with Oracle and
MSSQL and they have the same issues. When you relate two sets of data you try
to do it with the smallest set of fields possible.

And no one now believes that perhaps DP might not be up to the task here? Any
database application that actually limits the size of the data (or even the
number of fields) permitted has got a real problem. With disk sizes on home PCs
reaching the terabyte threshold, there should be literally no ceiling on the
amount of data permitted. The one problem that may still exist, however is the
need for power and speed to index all this data. DataPerfect is lacking in all
these aspects.

DataPerfect is a fantastic program, no doubt. But these work-arounds, schemes
and tricks required to do what should be simple, straight-forward functions
makes DP outdated.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the suggestion.  In this case, I need real data, because after
bringing the old address through to the Address Management panel, I will be
changing the address in the main panel.  As I need to preserve the old address,
I don't think this scheme would work.

Thanks again.

Hello Charlie,

It has been a long time since I've seen this one. There is a limit in the
amount of data that can be used in the link. If my memory is still good it is
in bytes. I believe it is 128 bytes of data. I really would recommend using
calculations to bring through data that is not part of the unique key.

Take care,

Rick

Subject: [Dataperf] Panel Link Question

Hi Everybody,

Is there a limit on the number of fields that can be carried from a parent
panel to a child panel via a panel link?  Fields 1-6 in the Link Key Field List
come through fine, but 7-10 do not.  The index selection matches the first 10
fields exactly, and in order.  There are 12 fields total in the index.

I've been looking through all the documention I have, including Ralph's book,
but I can't locate the source of my problem.

Thanks.
