Hi, Tony,

So nice to hear from all the old friends!

Although I didn't mention it in my earlier email, DP seems to choke on WP merge
files, too, if they are too big. The WP merge files I need to import have
formatting (underlining and bold) which needs to be there, so I can't use a
regular text file such a *.csv.

I am so glad for WP for Windows - I didn't have to lose Reveal Codes! And you
can use Visual Basic Script and/or PerfectScript (macro language for WP for
Windows) to make your macros with. It has a little learning curve to move from
WP51-style macros, but I'm proof that you can teach even an old dog to do this
new trick. It seems like it's the best of both worlds (WP51 and Windows) in
some ways. One of the things I am using macro/VBscript combinations for is to
create a HTML form in a browser that extracts info from an XML file that is
created by another application, add some user input to it, and then create a WP
Windows merge file for import into my DP database. I found using HTML forms in
a browser to be an easy, nice-looking way to get user input for WP/DP. (This
isn't over the web - just over the local network. Sadly I still haven't
figured out how to use DP over the web.)

Laurie

Hi Laurie et al … with great memories of that wonderful reunion in 2004.

Can you export the data to a .csv file and import it into Excel and do the
reverse from there?

I miss those wonderful WP macros so much, I hope the MS people get a clue
sometime. I also miss “Reveal Codes” enormously.

  All the best to all,

  Tony

  Hi, Charlie and all,

Thanks for such a quick response from all of you! Nice to hear from you all!

Yes, I am setting the import type as WordPerfect merge. I have a macro that
I have been using for years to import WP51 merge files into my DP database, and
it stopped working when I tried to use DP26. It looks like everything is
running normally, but once it finishes, when you look at the panel, no records
have been imported. So, I tried to do it manually without the macro to try to
see if I could figure out where the problem was, and it won't work when I do it
manually, either. It just says "import finished" but no records were imported.

  Any suggestions?

  Thanks!

  Laurie

    Laurie,

You mean it won't import even when you tell DP 2.6 that the Import Type is
"2", WordPerfect Merge? It works for me.

    Hello, everyone,

I just installed the DP2.6Y to try it again after some years (I have been
using 2.3 all this time), and I think now I remember why I stopped using it all
those years ago. I tried to import some WP51 merge files (with the new{END
FIELD} and {END RECORD} merge codes), and it won't import anything at all.
Strangely, it will import WordPerfect 4.2 merge files, with the old style ^R
and ^E merge codes. Have I done something wrong, or is this a known "feature"
of DP2.6?

    Thanks!

    Laurie
