I don't know that this is the only way to configure Shell, but I placed the Shell.exe dated 7-16-1991 and all of the native programs on each workstation in a folder called Office30. I use the shell.exe and ovl dated 7-16-1991 because dated exe and ovl for the same programs did not work properly on our Novell network for some reason. When I rolled back to 1991 version everything worked properly so I stuck with it.

I place DP and all of the panel and str data on the network and point all of the workstation shell DP menus to network to open dp or dpmouse from the network.

I also use a menu.bat to start shell, but that may not be necessary anymore.

1) Thank you, Tim, for your response. I did it as per your suggestion and created a shortcut on test.str file which opens with dp.exe and it works fine. Is this indeed the way to access my Test database?

2) I tried accessing the same database through Shell.exe or Shell.com but without success. What has to be done to be able to use the Shell environment via Network?

Hi;

I've been using DP for many years and for many clients without the
need of a network. Now I have to install this program to run on a
network on Windows XP but it doesn't work properly.
1) Running DP via dp.exe works fine with the following commandline:
\\main\f\DP26F\DP23\dp.exe, except that the Pathname in DP always has
to be entered manually even though I provided the name of the folder
this program will load from in the Working field on the desktop icon:
\\main\f\DP26F\Test.

2) When running DP under Shell through the network I get the error
message "invalid drive was specified" even when I click directly on
shell.exe or shell.com via the network.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Malkie
