Cris et all , Windows network errors are not uncommon. Many possibilities here 
, from Windows net buffer size from some hardware failure. As it was working 
before, we know at least that worked. Isn't there any minimal change on the 
configuration ? even windows updates ? Do you know the size of the files ? What 
switch/hub/router in use ? There is a small windows registry change that 
sometimes works with large access files problems:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters
Set "Size" = 3

Remember , SMB is not a robust protocol , TCP is better but to put windows 
working 100% with tcp is a pain in the neck, try to put NFS to work in WIndows 
to see what I'm talking about.
